Josef
Hofmann Society was founded in Wroclaw in
December 1997. Its aim is to commemorate Josef Hofmann
(1876-1957), the outstanding Polish pianist, teacher, inventor and
composer. The artist belonged to the greatest among the pianists in the
history of the piano, along with Ferenc Liszt, Ignacy Jan Paderewski,
Sergiusz Rachmaninov and Vladimir Horowitz. Another Society’s important
goal is to support the outstanding performance art -
interpretative musical art, which can be measured by the achievements
of such high rank artists as Busoni, Rachmaninov, Heifetz,
Klemperer and Schwarzkopf. In this perspective, Hofmann is the symbolic
person--as the great music interpreter. The Society realizes the
goals by organizing concerts, lectures, meetings and also by its own
initiative with regard to publishing.
